In the past six months, I have been studying the black thing of carbon black, and I have read it a lot in pieces, and I have always wanted to share my understanding with you, and its purpose is threefold:
1. If you have recently entered the chemical industry like me, I am very happy, and we can discuss it together.
2. If you are just in the chemical industry, then I am very proud, I hope that my easy-to-understand explanation can make you understand what carbon black is.
3. If you are an expert or a senior, then I am very excited, and I hope that you can guide me and let me improve.
I am in sales, and although the company is technology-oriented, I am required to understand myself, so my focus is on the use of carbon black! To this end, I have divided my understanding into 7 parts, and at this point I will share with you one of its carbon black applications: an overview of carbon black
First, what is carbon black:
Carbon black, as the name suggests, its main component is definitely this: carbon. Its basic particle size is between 10-100 nm, SO, it has excellent rubber reinforcement, coloring, electrical or antistatic and UV attraction. and so Carbon black is a rubber reinforcing filler and is the second largest rubber raw material after raw rubber. Carbon black is also used as a colorant, ultraviolet shielding agent, antistatic agent or conductive agent, widely used in plastics, chemical fibers, inks (including copier toner, inkjet printing ink, etc.), coatings, electronic components, leather chemicals and dry batteries and many other industries. It is also used in metallurgical and carbon materials industries as a high-purity carbon material.
Are you shocked to see its many uses? At least I think so, I knew him too one-sidedly, thinking that he just played a coloring function.
Second, the manufacturing method of carbon black
You must have learned the principle of carbon formation in chemistry before. That is, hydrocarbon compounds (liquid or gaseous) are generated by incomplete combustion or thermal cracking. It is mainly composed of carbon and is almost colloidal particles of spheres and colloidal aggregates.
There are two main types of carbon black manufacturing methods: incomplete combustion (with aerobic participation, which is the main carbon black production method) and thermal cracking (under anaerobic conditions)
There are also many small clade taxonomies during this period. All in all, the oil furnace method is the main manufacturing method. General carbon black is also produced by the oil furnace method
Third, the classification and naming of carbon black
1. Rubber is named with the classification of carbon black
A. Hard carbon black and soft carbon black (according to the reinforcing function of filled carbon black rubber material)
Hard carbon black has a greater effect on rubber reinforcement, filled with hard carbon black rubber, low hardness, good tensile performance and wear resistance, acting on the tread of the tire, and is also called: tread carbon black
Soft carbon black has little reinforcing effect on rubber, filling soft carbon black rubber, low hardness, better elasticity, low heat generation, tensile performance and wear resistance is not as good as hard carbon black, mainly used for tire carcass and various rubber products, SO called carcass carbon black.
B. Traditional naming of carbon black varieties
Trough carbon black is the first industrialized carbon black variety, the smaller the basic particles, the better the reinforcement performance, but it is difficult to mix, and vice versa, so it has been divided into refractory carbon black (HPC), mixable carbon black (MPC), and miscible carbon black (EPC).
Gas furnace carbon black is produced after trough carbon black: its elementary particles are larger and its reinforcing performance is not as good as trough carbon black, so it is called semi-reinforcing furnace carbon black (SRF). High-end stretching furnace carbon black (HMF) and fine particle furnace carbon black (FF) with smaller basic particles and better reinforcement performance.
Oil furnace carbon black, because its wear resistance is better than trough carbon black, so it is called high wear resistance furnace carbon black (HAF). Ultra-wear-resistant furnace carbon black (SAF) with small elementary particles and better wear resistance, and medium-super wear-resistant furnace carbon black (MAF) in it
In carbon black for rubber, the letter N or S represents the vulcanization rate of filling this carbon black rubber material, where N represents the normal vulcanization rate and S represents the slow vulcanization rate. In ASTM D, it is stipulated that the first and second numbers such as N110, N220, N330, N550, N660 and so on are all varieties with standard structure, while varieties such as N219, N339, N326 are low-structure varieties, and such as N234, N339, N347, N375, N582 are high-structure varieties. Among them, N100-N300 is hard carbon black, N500-N700 is soft carbon black by oil furnace method, and N800-N900 is hot cracked carbon black.
2. Nomenclature of carbon black for non-rubber
A. Pigment carbon black: mainly used as colorants for coatings, inks, plastics, chemical fibers and leather chemicals, which can be divided into: high pigment tank black (HCC), high pigment furnace black (HCF), medium pigment tank black (MCC), medium pigment furnace black (MCF), ordinary pigment bath black (RCC), ordinary pigment furnace black (RCF) and low pigment furnace black (LCF)
B. Conductive carbon black: with low resistivity, it can make rubber or plastic have certain conductive properties, and is used for different conductive or antistatic products, such as antistatic or conductive rubber, plastic products, cables; Raw materials for dry batteries.
C. Carbon black for plastics
What kind of carbon black do you want to know? We can communicate with each other and learn from each other!
